NWLA Summer 2010 Schedule

Happy Solstice. Summer Quarter started June 21st

We have very exciting news to share with you at the start of our 2010 summer language day camp season. Northwest Language Academy is moving to a new location! Our new home is the former Ashingdon Manor, a lovely bed & breakfast on 3 acres of meadows and landscaped grounds in Langley, the charming village-by-the-sea on beautiful Whidbey Island. The move was made possible thanks to the generosity of the Robert E. Crawford Music Foundation.

Our 2010 summer language day camps will be held at our new location which provides ample room for classes, activities, arts & crafts, covered outdoor space, and plenty of room to play and explore. Best of all, the elegant bed and breakfast facilities will make it possible for us to offer comfortable accommodations for our off-island campers and their families. We very much look forward to seeing you soon so we can show you around our new place!

NW Language Academy, Center for World Language and Cultural Exchange, is a 501c3 non-profit organization, that provides innovative resources for people of all ages to learn new languages and to better understand diverse cultures as community becomes global.

Special Programs and Events:

Language Intensives for Adults

Refresh and expand your language skills in a stress-free, supportive, relaxing, small class setting. Instructors are engaging native speakers with professional experience that bring both linguistic and cultural expertise to the class. The emphasis is on conversation, vocabulary building and pronunciation, with enough grammar to provide a firm foundation. The goal is maximum language acquisition for meaningful, real-life communication. Much more fun than the classes you took in high school or college! 3 days of language for $180.

2010 Summer Camp Schedule on Whidbey Island

NWLA Summer Language Day Camps provide daily instruction reinforced by fun, enriching, age-appropriate activities that include arts & crafts, music, drama, food, field trips and more! Children play traditional games from each culture, enjoy ethnic food, and create beautiful crafts, paintings and sculpture. Activities include kites on the beach, visit with local artists fluent in the target language, fencing, flamenco dance, or tai-chi, making & playing musical instruments, sports, and the highlight - presentation of an original play to the community. Language is taught at all levels of proficiency, so that campers with no prior knowledge of the language are comfortable, and those who already have a foundation can expand their skills.

An exciting program as parents - or caregivers - and their preschool-age children engage in play and creative interactions while learning a language together. Through the gentle, age appropriate activities, participants build a repertoire of French or Spanish songs, verses, and fun games that become a part of their family tradition. A puppet show, a visit from local native speakers who bring their craft, food, or music to share, and many other fun surprises are part of the program.
